The Sock Dilemma

I don't mind doing laundry.  In fact, it's one of the few household chores I don't mind doing.  But there is one problem I have with laundry--the socks!  Socks are the one nuisance of laundry.  You put them in, take them out and then they go into a pile later to be serparated.  My problem is taking the time to separate and match them up.  Here is what happens when I don't separate them.

It's very hard to find a matching pair from the sock pile, in the dark, while you are trying to get ready for a bike ride and not wake up my husband.

Here is the problem.  When I do finally separate them and put them away, somehow I end up with some missing socks!  I know I had matches when I put them in the wash.  What I want to know what happens to the socks in between getting wash, dried and ending up in the sock pile???

I just wish I knew what they did with my socks.

Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?
